This is a handmade paper sculpture by Lora Pennington. c. 1980
She would first create likenesses to Virginia Woolf using modeling clay, from which she would make a mould - a rubbery matrix that enabled her to recreate the features in reverse. The mould was then lined with damp pulp, and left to dry to produce a replica of the original model.
